PART 2

Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful phase in any woman's life being accompanied by early pregnancy symptoms. If you have not had baby before you may have difficulty in deciding whether you are pregnant, except for changes in your body that you may notice and others that could be detected by the medical doctor.

Early Changes Doctors Can Detect

1,The growth of the embryo is so minute at the early weeks of pregnancy that does not enlarge the womb very much hence doctors cannot tell much by the examination of the womb except after about eight weeks that this gives positive information,so any early examination to confirm pregnancy usually involves a vaginal assessment.A properly vaginal examination is not painful or harmful to the woman or the baby. The doctor merely passes one or two gloved fingers into the vagina and gently examines the womb and after twelve weeks the womb is enlarged sufficiently for the doctor to feel it through the stomach wall.

2,Ultrasound are sound waves above the frequency which can be heard by the human ear when pressed into the body and echoes from the reflecting surfaces are picked up,a composite picture can be built up on a screen showing growing baby and his or her placenta, the spongy structure through which he obtains nutrition, to be seen from different angles,in addition the number of babies in the womb can be determined much more earlier. The placenta position in the womb is very important particularly if it is low lying, certain malfunctions of the unborn child can also be picked up by the ultrasound.

3,X-Rays-This are suited for showing bony parts once the developing baby has sufficient calcium in his or her bones such pictures could be taken after 16 or 18 weeks of pregnancy.Execessive exposure to X-rays may be harmful but if doctor suspect potential danger he may have to order for a limited number of X-rays photographs usually taken in the hospitals.when such recommendations are made the expectant mother should be encouraged to do it,since for example the risk of not knowing the size and shape of her pelvis may be far greater than the risk of irradiation.

4,Hormone Tests-The hormonal changes takes to support the development of the fetus, the placenta of the developing baby make many hormones which spill over into the mother's bloodstream and pass to her urine.Test on mothers blood and urine can be a guide to the development of the unborn baby and these are changes that cannot be determined personally by the expectant mother thus the need to consult the doctor who will use various scientific techniques to monitor the health of the unborn child.Test of oestrogen hormones –the substances that give a woman her characteristics are measured in urine and blood samples ,concentrations vary very much in pregnancy and this test is used in many hospitals as a guide to measure the general wellbeing of the child during the last stages of pregnancy.
